Where does the name Aglie come from?
We have been trading under the Aglie name for 6 years, but we have been part of the jewellery trade for more than 30 years.
How it all began
As a family business, we ran a jewellery shop in Kalisz for many years. Over time, as large foreign corporations moved into the market, we had to change direction, a story familiar to many small and medium-sized businesses in this trade. We decided to focus on authentic silver pieces, complemented by a handful of handmade natural stone pieces from our own workshop.
The way forward was not yet clear, and times were hard. Our driving force turned out to be our customers, who were enchanted by those very natural stone pieces. Back then we had only a dozen or so of them: bracelets and chokers. It was these, rather than the collection of silver "antiques" we had originally planned, that won our customers over.
The compliments kept pouring in: the pieces were handmade, tasteful and made with real care. That was the beginning of Aglie, jewellery made from natural stones, gold and silver.
So where does the name come from?
It is the question we hear most often, and the answer may surprise more than a few people.
After this transformation, we wanted to create a new brand and needed a name that would capture its character. After long conversations and a great deal of thought, we finally found the one that felt just right.
AGLIE brings together two things close to our hearts:
- the first letters, taken from the name of our creative director and jewellery maker, Agnieszka,
- the ending, a nod to our love of Italy and to Aglié, a charming little Italian town.
And that is how Aglie came to be: a name that blends a personal story, a passion for craftsmanship and a touch of Italian flair.
